Q: Having issues reattaching this to the signal. Is there a step by step instruction video/diagram?

A: The bigger hole at the bottom of the opening on the sharpener should be posittioned over the silver holder on the handle. Then, press down on the sharpener firmly and slide it to the right. You may find it easier to attach if you press the locking mechansim down so that it slides on a bit easier.

Q: can you use it by itself as just a sharpener, instead of an attachment?

A: Yes, you can carry it as a separte attachment with other models. There just happens to be a designated carrying spot on the Signal for this item.
