There was a lot of negative comments on the web about this release. Almost all of it was before it was released. I received mine today, and I must say, I am impressed. Here is the long and short of it:

- I like the color and the feel of the Cerakote much better than the paint on my red Free T4.
- With this tool, you give up the File (which everybody says is useless due to its size and the fact that this is a magnetic tool), the Package Opener (which I really miss), and the tweezers (which are nice to have) found on the Free T4.
- With this tool, you gain the Can Opener (nice on a pocket knife), the Depth Gauge / flathead (not bad, not great, can be used in a pinch), and the Corkscrew with assist (not useful for me, but could be useful...) that are not found on the Free T4.
- So, overall, I like this tool better than the Free T4. It is more comfortable, easier to pocket, and 1 sided. The actual tools included could be improved, but that is the point in my opinion.
- In my opinion, what everybody seems to be missing is that this is a Garage item. It's for prototyping, proving concepts, etc. and for that, this is an outstanding Garage Product.
- What did they prove? Well, they proved that they can make a single-side-opening locking tool, that is CAPABLE of being much better than the free T4 in every way. With this platform, they could kill the Free T4 entirely, and replace it with a product based on this body. They could change the tools to make it much more useful. For example, remove the corkscrew and replace it with a bit driver. They could then replace the Philips and depth gauge with a chisel/package opener and something else. Or they could start making little pocket knife variants that cater to specific pursuits. gun maintenance, wood working, machining, electrical, small item work, and various other hobbies. Basically, they made a great platform with a whole lot of potential.
- Up until now, Leatherman has been making garage tools with incremental changes to existing products. This has the potential of making an entirely new product-line.
Why only 4 stars? because I think the tool could be better, but I suppose, making an awesome tool in the Garage and releasing the exact same tool later as a product would be pretty messed up. They would have to differentiate some way other than color.
Thats just my .02. I am glad I purchased it, and I really hope Leatherman moves forward with the concept. Read LessRead less about There was a lot of negative comments
