In 2007, Leatherman engineers set out to meet a new challenge: How to pack the most functionality possible into a 5 oz package.

The answer: the Skeletool.

By combining a skeletonized design with only the most essential tools they made the ultimate minimal multi-tool.

Let's take a closer look at tools packed into the CX and what makes it the ultimate lightweight multi-tool.

knife blade

1. 154CM premium straight blade stays sharper longer

2. Thumb hole for easy one handed opening

One of the standout features of the Skeletool CX is the 154CM stainless steel knife blade. 154CM is a high-quality steel that excels in edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness. It also stays sharper 3x longer than many other knife steels. This makes for a dependable and easy to maintain pocket knife. The blade can be easily opened with one hand using the thumbhole. Once opened it locks securely in place so you can cut safely and with confidence.

A final thing to note about this knife is that it is a plain edge. Many people prefer a plain, or straight blade over a combo or serrated blade. This is especially true if it is the only cutting tool they carry.

Plain edge knives:

  • Have longer cutting edges for faster slicing and chopping.
  • Are easier to sharpen without special tools or techniques.
  • Give you more control and precision (no snagging or tearing).

pliers

1. Needle nose pliers grasp small items, bend wire, and reach into tight spaces.

2. Regular pliers Have a larger grip to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts

3. Regular wire cutters for snipping soft wires, twin and string

4. Hard wire cutters for breaking bailing, fish hooks and other material

After the knife, the most prominent feature of the Skeletool CX are the pliers. The pliers of the Skeletool CX are a versatile and handy tool that can handle a variety of tasks and materials. Whether you need to grip, cut, bend, or twist something, the pliers get the job done.

large bit driver

1. Large Bit Driver holds any of our full-sized tool bits

2. Bit storage for stowing a spare bit

The third most used feature of the Leatherman Skeletool CX is the bit driver. The bit driver can hold any of Leatherman’s full-size tool bits. Each bit has two sides, so you can switch between them depending on the type and size of the screw you need to work with.

The Skeletool CX also has a slot in the opposite handle to store a spare bit. With two double sided bits on hand, you can have four different options at your disposal. You can also purchase extra bits to expand your capability and versatility.
