Surrogate Mother Bird: Yet Another Use for My Surge

Dear Leatherman,

First of all thank you for making your tools. Through the years I have had several different types and have used them to solve a whole host of problems. My most recent purchase was a Surge. I have used it to fix many things but I didn’t think I would ever use it to save a life.

Last week I looked out my window to see a baby bird that had fallen from its nest. It was apparently learning how to fly, but could not get home. Since its home was nowhere to be found we took it inside and called wildlife rescue. Unfortunately they were closed for the weekend leaving us with no choice but to take care of it. This meant me would have to feed it. The problem was that he had a sharp beak. So I reached for my Surge and used it as a surrogate mother to feed the bird. I softened some bread and clamped it in the pliers. Then I held above the bird so he could eat. He didn’t seem to mind the bionic looking beak and nibbled at the bread. I’m not sure how well it liked the bread, but it was enough to keep the little guy alive until we could get him to more capable hands.

The bird is now with the wildlife rescue and will be released in a few weeks. I am glad I was able to help him. He may not remember his bionic mother, but I certainly won’t forget this story.

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
