Tool Tales

Elevator Escape

As my daughter and I were leaving the doctor's office at the local children’s hospital we noticed a lot of activity around the elevators. As we approached we noticed a little girl, about 2 years old, had her hand jammed between the elevator door and the wall. Apparently she was resting her hand on the elevator door and when it slid open it pulled her hand into the space between the door and the wall. The doctors and nurses were pulling and pushing on the door to free the girl’s hand. I opened my Leatherman Kick and put it into the space between the wall and the door just above her hand and using the pliers as a lever pulled out, warping the door enough that her hand was freed. The Kick left a nasty gouge in the elevator door but the tools itself was no worse for the wear.

As we left the building a few minutes later we noticed the fire department arriving but thanks to my trusty Leatherman they were too late.

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
