One Tool, Two Trees, Two Rescues
This is a tale about one Leatherman but two separate incidences on the same road.
I am the senior river steward for the St. Croix River, between Maine and New Brunswick. When cruising the different sites we maintain I usually carry a chainsaw with me.
One particular Sunday, this past June, I was going down the Beaconsfield Road to a big site when I came upon a big spruce tree blown across the road. This was probably the only time all year I didn't have a chainsaw with me. Instead I used the saw from my Leatherman Blast to saw away at the trunk and then when I figured I had enough of it cut I hooked on to it with a roped and pulled the top off with the truck. This got me through to the site and let campers out. It was quite a big tree and took me a long while to saw through enough to break it with that little saw blade, but it worked exceptionally well.
A few weeks later I was with my family and in-laws on the same stretch of road. We had been tubing all day and left just as a sudden squall blew up. As we were leaving a large black spruce fell across the road in front of our group of vehicles blocking the way. Once again I pulled out my Leatherman and sawed through the trunk, this time much bigger, enough to pull on it with a rope and vehicle and break it off enough to allow passage on the road.
Needless to say, I was completely surprised that the small saw blade worked so well and actually cut through a much larger trunk than the length of the blade so easily.
Thanks Leatherman, you saved the day for me twice this past year.

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
