Tool Tales

June 2009

Spreading the Mission

I have always been a tool fanatic and collector and am skilled at a number of different trades. I purchased my first multi-tool in 1994 (it was a Fiskars tool) and was really disappointed. In less than a week, I had broken it doing routine work around the house.

A few months later, dismayed that my dream of carrying a useful multi-tool was crushed, I noticed a friend at work had a sheath on his belt with an interesting name on it - it read Leatherman. Intrigued, I asked him what he was carrying and he showed me his PST. I immediately knew this was a quality tool and promptly purchased my own for everyday use. I used that tool just about everyday for just about every mechanical or household task and started doing some research on the line of Leatherman tools. Long story short, I currently own over 25 Leatherman tools including many retired tools as well as large and small Leatherman and some from the Juice line as well.

In addition to owning a large number of these tools, I have also given well over 50 of them (ranging from PSTs to Micras) to friends, coworkers and others in need. In all cases, people would typically say the polite "thank you" without really knowing what they were getting. In just about all cases, folks would come back a short time later with a huge "thank you", raving about the usefulness of these tools.

I am never without my Leatherman Micra and at least one other tool (I now carry the Blast or Skeletool most frequently). It is really cool that many of my friends, who would previously shake their head when I carried these tools, are now all die hard Leatherman fans as well. I am quite sure that I have made Leatherman users out of at least 100 or so folks.

In any event, thank you for making such a wonderful product and please keep your commitment to producing these tools to such quality standards. As a mechanical engineer and multiple tradesman, I remain very impressed with your products.

I will continue to pursue the mission of everyone owning some sort of Leatherman product.

Be well.

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
