Adapt and Overcome
Currently deployed in Iraq, I am a mechanic with the US Navy Seabees. Often times we are without proper tools out in the field so we have to implement other ways to make our repairs. My old Leatherman Super Tool has helped me with everything from opening my dinner, usually an MRE, to tightening odd size nuts and bolts.
One occasion we caught ourselves in a bit of a bind, and had to get our truck moving in a hurry. To our luck the starter solenoid had refused to engage the starter...luckily my Leatherman was on my side and we were able to cross the starter terminals and be on our way. I never would have figured that, even with so many tools, a Leatherman can substitute and that starting a vehicle would have been possible.
Needless to say, one day when I misplaced my Super Tool I felt as if I had lost a limb; the first chance I had I replaced it with a new Surge. I later found my Super tool, and now carry one on my belt and one on my Kevlar vest. As for the Gerber that was issued to me, it has sat in its box for the last 7 months.

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
