Tool Tales

April 2009

Saved the Day

Today, Saturday 11/4/2009, I was herding some of my sheep for drenching. I was riding my two wheel motorcycle along a track when I ran over a piece of discarded fencing wire. A loop in the wire caught around my foot and tangled around the back wheel and sprocket. The wire jammed my foot against the frame, stalled the bike and tipped bike and rider over. I ended up head down hill with the motorcycle jammed on top of me with the wire jamming my leg against it and fuel leaking out and running over the exhaust. I tried to push the bike off myself but couldn't due to my ankle being caught by the wire. I yelled out to a nearby worker but couldn't raise him. Then I thought about the trusty Leatherman. I reached under the bike and cut the wire from my leg and was able to free myself. I then stood the bike up and cut the wire from the sprocket. Never have I been happier to be carrying my Leatherman Wave. Thank you, Leatherman.

I might add that I am on my second personal Leatherman Wave. I wore the first one out. I have purchased about 10 - 12 Leatherman tools since my first 'Original', then a 'Super Tool'. I have two of the old style Waves put away for when I wear the next one out and have give several Waves to family and friends. Disappointingly, I still prefer the old style Wave, so I am not sure what I will get when I wear out the two spares. This is a true story. It happened today, but no photo as I went back to chasing the sheep, after I moved the wire.

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
