My Leatherman Saves Me Money, and a Job!

I was recently hired to house sit for a family on vacation for three weeks. The house was left with 22 budgies, 1 dog, and three parakeets as well as a hamster. Definitely a handful!

Anyhow, getting to the part where my Leatherman saved me, there was a door in the back of the house. This door had the weirdest lock ever. You push in a button on the handle and the door handle would lock. However, you could still open and close the door from the inside while only the handle on the outside of the door would be locked. As you can guess this got me locked out! I went into the yard with the dog; whoosh... a gust of wind slammed the door shut. I did not even realize I had locked myself out until ten minutes later when I tried to get back in. I was without a key (it was inside,) but I luckily had my cell phone. I called my brother who lived about five minutes away from the house I was sitting. I did not feel like spending my earnings on a locksmith, so I asked him to bring a whole bunch of different tools. After mildly cursing for half an hour, nothing could "pop" or open the door. Before giving up, I decided to try my Charge AL. Using the flathead screwdriver, I was able to push the metal moving part back into the door, and pull it out of the door frame. The door swung open! It was awesome.

That day's adventures justify why I always carry a Leatherman on me, and why I own four of them!

Tell Us Your Tale

OK, you voyeur, you. Enough of reading other people's stories. It's time you told your own tale of gripping heroism or even just neat DIY'ism. We know there's a Shakespeare in you somewhere. Don't make us use the Steens to find it.
